El sábado 25 de agosto del 2012 alrededor de 14:30-15:00 mi
novia y yo fuimos a hacer algunas compras. En el camino nos encontramos con
tres gatitos pequeños. Cuando me acerqué un gato grande, (la
madre supongo) apareció de repente. Me observó y tras percatarse que yo no era una amenaza
me dejó tranquilo jugar con los gatitos. Esta es una escena típica que se
repite en cada rincón de Estambul tan poblada de animales callejeros. Hasta
aquí no hay nada extraño.
Más de una hora más tarde, cuando
terminado nuestras compras y regresamos a casa, María decidió comprar un poco
de comida para los gatitos. Algo muy típico en ella. Tras comprar la comida fuimos directamente a la
calle de la familia de felinos.
La
escena era sin duda muy
diferente de lo que vimos una hora antes. Dos patrullas de la policía
estaban
estacionados en la esquina de la calle y una cantidad importante de
personas discutían a gritos. En el suelo yacía el cadáver ensangrentado
de la madre
de los gatitos.
Me acerqué a la multitud de vecinos enfurecidos. Un hombre con un pit-bull (una raza
particularmente agresiva carente de ningún tipo de regulación en Turquía)
gritaba a los policías diciendo que “él no era responsable de nada”.
Los testigos aseguraron que "el
hombre le lanzó el pit-bull a los gatitos cuya madre, en un intento desesperado
por salvarlos, se interpuso llevándose las brutales dentelladas que acabarían
por segarle la vida. Una mujer aseguraba entre sollozos que mientras tanto "el dueño del perro se jactaba impasible".
Según
relataron varios vecinos estos "increpaban al dueño de la criatura"
mientras la misma masticaba los restos del gato destrozado. "Finalmente
un hombre trató vano trató de
liberar los despojos del gato. El animal respondió con furia y lo atacó a
él y a su hija,
cuya camisa quedó reducida a jirones". El propietario amenazó al padre e
hija.
"Mañana volveré con el perro para que te muerda también a ti", dijo,
según reconocieron unanimamente los vecinos.
Un
muchacho joven entonces gritó:
"esta es la tercera vez que lo hace”. Luego con la lentitud que
caracteriza a la policía, la misma hizo acto de presencia y se llevó el
dueño y al perro a la comisaría. Los
vecinos furiosos también acudieron para dar testimonio.
Hasta aquí hemos de entender que
estamos tratando con individuo que padezca algún trastorno y que por
tanto sea incapaz de asumir la responsabilidad que requiere la tutela de un
animal. De cualquier animal. No solo de un pit-bull.
En Europa o al menos en España hubiéramos esperado que el dueño
del animal fuera detenido, y que al menos le hubiesen negado la tutela del
perro aunque solo fuera por haberlo utilizado para amenazar a un padre y a su hija. Pero en Turquía la ley dicta que cualquiera puede hacer su perro mate a tantos seres vivos como le
plazca y no solo eso sino que además podrá amenazar e incluso atacar con el
animal a cuantos individuos se opongan. Y lo mejor de todo es que en Turquía, esta ofensa (que en España
podría costarle a uno la cárcel), solo se penaliza menos de 30 Euros.
La actitud de la policía tampoco
fue la mejor. El padre la hija y las aproximadamente 17 personas que acudieron a
protestar a la comisaría tuvieron que esperar más de tres horas para completar
el informe, mientras que el dueño del animalito esperó tan sólo media hora.
Aunque se trata de un caso
aislado, lejos de la atención de los principales medios de comunicación, este
evento indica hasta qué punto la legislación turca es insuficiente para hacer
frente a sucesos como este. Este evento sive para para poner un poco más de énfasis sobre la cuestión de la responsabilidad
a la hora de tutelar un animal. Tal vez hoy los que paguen sean un puñado de
vecinos con buen susto. Ah, y el gato con su vida. (y los gatitos sin su madre). Tal vez mañana será un niño
jugando en el parque, pero entonces será demasiado tarde. Pero qué mas da, esto es Turquía y
aquí todo es posible.
ENGLISH
On Saturday
25th August 2012 around 14:30 – 15:00 my girlfriend and me went out
to do some shopping. On the way we found three small playful kittens. As I got
closer to them a big cat, mother I supposed, appeared. It would just observe me
for a while after going somewhere else so I would take advantage of the
situation and play with the kittens. This is a typical scene that repeats in
every corner of animal populated Istanbul. Up to here nothing is strange.
Over
an hour later, we finished our shopping and walked back home, Maria decided to
buy some cat food for the kittens so as soon as we’ve got the food we went
straight to the street where we saw the cat family.
The
scene was definitely very different from what we saw an hour ago. Two police patrols
were stationed at the corner of the street and a significant amount of people
where arguing. On the floor laid the bleeding and fleshy corpse of the mother
cat. I approached the scene. A man with a pit-bull (a particularly aggressive
race in which Turkey no law regards as that) shouted to the policemen saying he
wasn’t responsible of anything. As witness assured to me, the man encouraged
the dog to harm the kittens. The mother, in a desperate attempt to save them
was brutally bitten to dead. Not only that but the man would just stand and
allow the dog destroying with its powerful jaws the defenceless animal.
At
the face of this event from the group of astonished neighbours a brave man
stood up and in vain tried to release the dying cat and protect his daughter,
whose t-shirt was ripped by the animal. The owner threatened the perplexed
father and daughter. “I will come back tomorrow and I will throw it to you”,
said defiant.
A
young boy then shouted “this is the third time he does that, I know this man,
he killed three street cats”.Then
the police arrived and took the owner and the dog to the police station.
Furious neighbours went to the station too to give testimony of what they saw.
Up
to here we would understand we’re dealing with a kind of mentally ill
individual incapable of assuming the responsibility of owning that particular
type of dog.
In
Europe or everywhere in the modern world we would have expected the man to be
arrested, the dog to be reallocated with different owners (and at worst
sacrificed although dog is not responsible). But in Turkey the perpetrator
would just get away with it after paying a “severe fine” of 79 TL (not even 30
Euro)
In
other words, In Turkey you can make your pit-bull kill as many living things as
he wants and you can also use it to threat other people, or even attack them.
And the best thing is that you get away with it for not even 30 euro.
But
maybe the attitude of the police wasn’t the best either. The father whose
daughter’s t-shirt was destroyed and approximately 17 people that went with
him, were asked to wait more than three hours to complete the report while the
perpetrator waited just half an hour. Not only this but the perpetrator would
walk closer and closer to the group while his dog would badly stare at them.
After a significant amount of provocations (such getting the dog extremely
close to another street cat AT THE STATION) the officers would finally do
something (asking the group not to shout).
Although
this is an isolated case far away from the attention of mainstream media, this
event points up until what extend Turkish law is insufficient to deal with
dangerous races, animal events, and the question of responsibility. Maybe today
it is a cat, and the t-shirt of a brave father’s daughter. Perhaps tomorrow it
will be a child playing in the park but then it will be a little to late.

Cumartesi günü saat 14:30 sularında kız arkadaşımla alışverişe çıktık. Yolda
çok tatlı 3 kedi yavrusu bulduk. Onlara yaklaştığımızda anne kedi çıkageldi.
Bir süre bizi izleyip uzaklaşatı ben de kedileri sevdim. İstanbul’un her
köşesinde karşılaşabileceğimiz normal bir durum. Buraya kadar herşey tamam.
Ancak 1 saat
sonra alışverişimizi bitirip eve dönecekken kız arkadaşım Maria kedileri mama
almak istedi. Mamayı alıp kedilerin bulunduğu yere gittik ve tamamen başka bir
manzarayla karşılaştık.
İki polis köşede
durmuş ve etrafını bir kalabalık çevirmiş bağırıyorlardı.. Yerde kanlar içinde anne kedi yatıyordu.
Hemen oraya gittim. Bir adam vahşi pitbull’uyla polislere hiçbirşeyden sorumlu
olmadığını bağırıyordu. Manzarayı gördüğümde adamın köpeği yavru kedilere
saldırttığı ve anne kedi yavrularını korumak için gözü kara biçimde
saldırdığını ve ölümcül bir şekilde ısırıldığını anladım.
Olay anında
saşkın kalabalık arasından cesur bir adam çıkarak kediyi ve köpek tarafından
t-shirti parçalanmış kızını köpekten kurtarmaya çalışmış. Köpek sahibi kızı
ve babasını “yarın geri geleceğim
ve köpeği üstünüze salacağım!” diye bağırarak tehtid etmiş. Aradan başka bir
genç “bu adamı biliyorum. Bu üçüncü. Bu adam hep köpeğine sokak kedilerini
öldürtüyor!” demiş.
Ardından polis
gelerek köpeği ve sahibini karakola götürdü. Öfkeli kalabalıkta ifade vermek
için peşlerinden gitti.
Anlıyoruz ki bu
adam akıl hastası, bir köpeğin sorumluluğınu alamayacak kadar basiretsiz biri.
Avrupa’da ve ya
herhangi modern bir ülkede bu adam tutuklanırdı, köpekte barınağa kapatılır ya
da öldürülürdü(köpek olaylardan sorumlu olmasa dahi). Ancak Türkiye’de 79 Tl cezanızı ödeyerek hiçbirşey
olmamış gibi devam edebilirsiniz.
Yani Türkiyede
pit-bull’unuzla önünüze gelen canlıyı öldürebilir ve hatta insanlara
saldırtabilir ve tehtid edebilirsiniz. Sonra da polise 79 Tl verip yolunuza
devam edebilirsiniz.
Polisin tavrı da
hiç iyi değildi. T-shirtü parçalanan kız ve babası ile beraberinde gelen 17
kişi ifadeler için 3 saat bekletilirken. Köpek sahibi ise yarım saatte işini
bitirdi. Karakoldan ayrılmadan once de köpeği kalabalığa yaklaştırarak korkuttu
ve provoke etti. İnsanlar bağırınca da polis, kopek sahibi yerine kalabalığa
kızarak bağırmamalarını söyledi!
Bu tür olaylar
medyaya yansımamasına rağmen, yaşanan olay Türk kanunlarının bu tür olaylar
karşısında ne kadar yetersiz olduğunu gösteriyor. Bugün belki sadece bir kedi
ve bir kızın t-shirtü. Ancak yarın parkta oynayan bir çocuk olabilir ve bu
olduğunca çok geç kalınmış olacak.
